TRI-FAITH INITIATIVE

Working with the co-founders of the Tri-Faith Initiative, AIISC has committed to developing a Tri-faith Center alongside Temple Israel, an Episcopal Church and the AIISC educational institute and mosque. The four buildings will form a multi-faith neighborhood of collaboration serving Omaha, the Heartland and ultimately a global community.

TRI-FAITH YOUTH GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER AT A BOWLING PARTY

Getting 2 Know U

The Tri-Faith Initiative’s collective vision is to build bridges of respect and acceptance; to challenge stereotypes of each other; to learn from each other; and to counter the influence of extremists and agents of hate by engaging in a multifaceted dialogue and the promotion of mutual respect.

This vision is on the brink of becoming a reality as the three partners are purchasing land at 132nd and Pacific Streets in west Omaha. This land will include the Institute, Temple Israel and an Episcopal Church.

This is a unique moment to change an age-old paradigm, welcome other faiths and begin a lifelong, mutually respectful dialogue. A coordinated effort between ordinary people, academic, professional and religious leaders is essential to developing an effective Tri-Faith organization, which we believe to be a crucial step toward building awareness and respect of Islam in the western world.

The AIISC educational institute and mosque has received extensive support in Omaha. There was initially some concern among the membership of the three partners about co-locating, however; this wariness has lessened with each Tri-Faith program. Over 1,100 Tri-Faith supporters attended our inaugural event, a dinner gathering entitled “Dinner Under Abraham’s Tent” in March 2009. Just recently, 200 Tri-Faith supporters gathered for a Jewish Passover celebration.

We have seen within our own community, that as we spend time together, understanding and genuine friendship replaces distrust and fear. This is why this collaboration, and the AIISC educational institute and mosque, is so desperately needed – right here, right now. We are hopeful we can count on your support as we move forward with our global mission of peace through education, engagement and understanding.
